Kitchen Cabinet Makeover

When we first moved into our house the kitchen cabinets, were the first thing I said we’d paint. A year later, they were still the same puce green and the thought of painting them all is daunting.

I found this lovely daisy wrapping paper at Paper Source when we were in Kansas City a few weekends ago.

Paper Source is one of those stores that Adam goes into with me because he loves me, kind of like how I’ll go into Best Buy or the Apple store with him. So when I asked him what he would think of putting it on the cabinets. I was shocked when he said we should try it and wondered if he didn’t just want to get out of the store!

Two rolls only set us back $16, and I figured if we hated the paper once it was up we could take it down and use the paper for gifts.

I measured the inside of all the upper cabinet doors and cut the paper to fit. I used double-sided tape to hold the paper up. It’s not perfect, don’t look too close or you’ll see where it doesn’t fit exactly, but who cares? The cabinets are 100 times better than they were and even Adam says he likes it!

Maybe we’ll change our mind in a few months and take it down, and maybe one day we’ll repaint, but for now, we love them! Not bad for under $30 and a couple hours!

Check out Laura’s recent kitchen refresh. Who said kitchen makeovers had to cost hundreds of dollars?

Very cute! And could also work really well for someone in a rental situation. Really fresh.

That is adorable! And cheap! So you could change it out whenever you feel like it. :)

Pretty! At first when I saw the puce green I thought that was the new color. Love the daisies! Fresh and inviting. Would love to see your house someday…. it’s so cute – you’ve really fixed it up.

This is adorable! I love the daisies. I saw your post on Apartment Therapy and had to come see. I’m thinking about doing the fabric and starch treatment on my boring 1970′s kitchen cabinets. I’m trying to work up my nerve!

so how has the paper held up to cooking?  I have pink pickled cabinets from the 80's, waiting for the day they are retro and clever looking….may be a long time coming…

I’ve had the paper up for over a year and it still looks great. No loose corners or anything! There aren’t any cabinets near the range, but the one near the dishwasher and sink are fine. Good luck!
