Summer Pinterest Challenge: $3 pillow covers

It's time for another Pinterest Challenge, and this time it's something that Laura and I did together! With 600+ miles between us, that doesn't happen very often! Sherry and Katie teamed up with Kate over at Centsational Girl and Michelle from the blog Ten June to host the latest challenge. I love seeing the projects everyone comes up with, and usually end up adding more than a couple to my list!

A few weeks ago I got to spend a long weekend with Laura and Cody in Saginaw. The primary purpose of the trip was to spend as much time cuddling little Lydia as possible, but we found time to squeeze in a quick project! It all started with a trip to Target (like so many great things do!)

I had seen this post on how to make a pillow cover out of a napkin over at Tatertots & Jello. We were admiring what was left of the Privet House Collection and I mentioned the project to Laura. She was already swooning over the coral napkins (and they were on clearance. Two napkins for less than $3, score!). When I showed her they were double-sided she was sold on the project (it didn't take much convincing). She already had two 18-inch pillows waiting to be covered at home. It was a match made in heaven.First we ripped the seams out of one side of the napkins (yes, we used an exacto knife. A seam ripper would have been our first choice, but the knife worked just fine). Then we slid the pillow in.Then we sewed them back up. It was serious work! Look at my concentration in the background!

Didn't they turn out great? I especially love that they are reversible. I can't decide which side I like better!
It took us less than an hour, start to finish, to have both pillows finished. That's the best kind of project when you have a newborn! And it was also Lydia's first project! She's destined to have good taste when it comes to decorating.I know this post is about pillow covers, but I couldn't resist including a few pics of Lydia. Isn't she precious!? And I'm sure she's already so much bigger since these pictures were taken!

Great makeover/tutorial!  Those pillows are such a great color, and what a deal at Target!

Thanks for dropping by casey and I totally know the pillow craving feelings!  Best of luck finding these napkins, we grabbed the last two at our local Target and I know a lot of the lovely Privet House collection is being closed out here soon!

These pillows look great. I'm definitely going to be keeping my eye out for clearance napkins from now on!

Oh my goodness I just made some napkin pillow covers the other day (I just haven't posted it yet).  Love the color.  Looks like I will have to check out the Privet House collection!
