Day 25 Tip and Tricks: Lush Rugs on the Cheap

I love the way a good expensive rug feels like heaven beneath your toes. So soft and inviting almost like you could curl up in that spot and stay forever.  But expensive rugs can be well, EX-PEN-SIVE! So until I'm ready to drop some serious mula into a rug I use this trick to give my toes a touch of bliss.

My trick, carpet padding, the plusher the better! Check local carpet stores for remnants. If you're willing to cut them yourself they're usually cheaper than rug pads!

This is a $10 bambo mat from World Market, but with the carpet padding underlay it feels like walking on a cloud. Cut the pad slightly smaller than your rug, I've found it's best an inch or so perimeter to let your rug 'waterfall' over the pad.

Then walk back and forth on your new creation, marveling how this cheap solution feels so luxurious! Carpet padding usually comes in 6-foot wide rolls so for larger rugs just use a little carpet tape on the seams.

Great idea! My living room rug has seen better days and could use a little revival. This seems like a great trick to "plush" it back up until we're ready to buy a new one. Thanks for the tip!
