I had a pair of lamps that needed a style boost. I loved their curvy yellow base, but the plain white shades weren't cutting it. (I got them at Kirklands over a year ago on clearance) They needed a little cosmetic surgery! A little liposuction of the decorating variety! (Now do you get the post title? pretty clever, right I added some ribbon and now they're plumper and more kissable, wait that's Lindsay Lohan's lips.
This is one of those projects I've been meaning to do for over year. It took no time at all (I finished it during one of baby boy's cat naps)!
I grabbed some gray grosgrain ribbon and my hot glue gun and went to work while catching up on The Bachelor (guilty pleasure!). Please excuse the blury image, but you get the idea, right? I glued in sections, working my way around rim of the shade.
Ta-da! Doesn't it look all grown up and ready to go to the party? At first I was only going to put the ribbon around the bottom, but I like how having it on the top and the bottom makes it look finished. What do you think?
I know gray and yellow has been a "thing" for awhile now, but I love it! (imagine a second lamp on the other side of the bed). I only wish I would have done this sooner, since it looks so great with our yellow and gray shams.
Here are the lamps we used to have. They weren't terrible, but they weren't my favorite. For now they'll live in the guest room. Maybe I'll spray paint the bases white. Maybe I'll try to sell them on craigslist.
