Marriage Monday: A Long Conversation

a beautiful marriage“A happy marriage is a long conversation which always seems too short.” –Andre Maurois

I love this quote!

Adam was on a men's retreat with our church this weekend, so I was on my own with baby boy. We kept busy with two play dates on Friday and spent the night with girlfriends Saturday night, but we were all ready to be back together on Sunday!

I feel like I talked Adam's ear off all afternoon. He was only gone two days, but I had so much to tell him! They weren't huge things, a new house in the neighborhood that's for sale, funny stories from my time with girlfriends, and of course plenty of cute things that baby boy did, but I just keep thinking of things I wanted to share with him!

It made me think of this quote and how a marriage can be seen as one long conversation. There's no beginning or end. It flows easily from topic to topic, from one challenge or triumph to the next. We laugh together and cry together. We have moments where we have so much to say we don't think we'll be able to get all the words out and other times when it's OK to just sit together in silence.

The beauty of a conversation is that it takes two people. There is a natural ebb and flow. Sometimes one person has a lot to say and the other one is quiet, but you can't have a conversation alone. It's a joint effort, which is exactly what marriage is.

Have you ever thought of your marriage as a conversation?
