Front Door: Cape on the Corner

by laura.johnson

This past weekend I was lucky enough to close the 10 hour gap between Andrea and myself.  While the days were full of home improvement ideas, husband tech talk, and lots of family time, one of favorite activities was strolling through neighborhoods admiring the efforts of others.   I just love the thrill of turning the corner and finding a hidden gem.  That’s how I feel about this sweet home from Cape on the Corner. I can’t help but peer into their lives and home from the comfort of my laptop.  I hope you love this little bungalow as much as I do.

Thanks so much, ladies, for inviting me to participate in your front door series! Can I just say how much I love my home, my little cape on the corner? I do. I very much do. It’s what inspired my whole blog.

We’re two people (plus a noisy cat) and it’s just the perfect little space for us. I knew this was the for us house the moment we saw it, and the moment we stepped inside the front door.  The front door that we painted a nice two tone, since that is what this series is all about…

Four years later, we are still making improvements that are making this home feel like “ours.” To say that we’ve been tweaking it for all this time sounds like it’s a real fixer upper, but that’s not the case at all. It’s just been becoming more us, from turning a bedroom into the dining room to removing paneling in the sun room and making it, well, sunnier.

That is, without a doubt, my favorite renovation in the house to date.  It’s where the cat and I spend all of our time, whether it’s in the spring watching the birds and flowers bloom or sitting snuggly inside during a rain storm in the fall.

Currently, we are working on our basement, taking it from completely unfinished (and what was once the garage!) to a fully usable and finished space.  I am dreaming of the day when we can finally use it, but for now, I’m happy the drywall is up and spackling is commencing!
Thanks so much for letting me share my home!
