A man’s crockpot

by Andrea Cooley

I have sung the praises of my crockpot here before, but this post is about a different kind of crockpot. A manly crockpot if you will. I got Adam a smoker for Christmas. Now hear me out. It’s not quite as hands off as a crockpot, but the premise is the same. You put your meat in in the morning, and 8-10 hours later you have an amazing dinner! And the best part is Adam does all the work.

He’s still perfecting his method, but sampling smoked meats is not a bad job to have. So far we’ve tried ribs, pork shoulder, and brisket.

I decided to go with an electric smoker, but charcoal is a popular option. I figured it would be easier to monitor the temperature with an electric model. Adam tells me it’s pretty easy to use. He fills a pan with water (to make the smoke), adds the meat, and flavored wood chips (we found cherry and hickory chips at Lowe’s). Then you set the timer and let the smoke do it’s thing.

This is one of those times I wish I could add smell to the blog, because the smell of smoke wafting out of the garage is pretty amazing!
