Alternative Christmas Trees

by Andrea Cooley

Emerson is 13 months old and curious about EVERYTHING! We toyed with the idea of getting something other than a traditional tree this year but Adam really wanted a real tree, so that is what we have, but I could definitely see getting something different!

I've seen some great ideas for non-traditional Christmas trees. Whether you don't have room for a 5 foot tree in your small house or apartment, want to have more than one tree, or are just looking for a different way to decorate, here are some of my favorite Christmas tree alternatives:

Martha Stewart does it again! How cool is this PVC pipe tree? You can fill the holes with ornaments or candy!

This is on sale for $18.99, but it would be so easy to make with shims!

When I worked at Lowe's Creative Ideas, I loved any projects using wood shims. This one would take some patience to make, but I love the natural look.

Another wood tree, this time made from pallets!

So simple but so beautiful!

Do you have a real or artificial Christmas tree? Or do you have something entirely different?

I'm working on gift guides for husbands, kids, and girlfriends, so be sure to check back next week! And maybe I'll even get some of my Christmas shopping started this weekend!

  1. We usually go with a real tree but figured it would be a nightmare with Hudson. We bought an artificial, pre-lit tree on black friday for $60! All of the breakable ornaments are towards the top, out of his reach. We let Hudson touch the tree and non-breakable ornaments with one-finger. That's pretty much our rule for breakables in our house, "you can touch that but only with one finger". He's surprising gentle and listens about 80% of the time. 😉
