Book Review: Rhinestone Jesus

I’ve written about books I’m reading before, but this is the first time I’ve written an official review. I recently joined the Tyndale Blog Network and am excited to occasionally read and review their latest books.**

Rhinestone Jesus, by Kristen Welch, is a story about what can happen to your life if you say yes to God. It has something for everyone no matter what stage of life you’re in. It’s full of encouragement and inspiration for moms, wives, friends, and Christians.

Before reading the book, I was familiar with the Mercy House through Kristen’s blog, but I loved hearing the story behind it. I was encouraged to learn that this started as an idea. A dream. And God turned it into something amazing.

It’s easy to read a story like this and feel like that’s nice for them, but how does it apply to me? As I read, I was challenged to move beyond that thought and really try to apply it to my life. I’m not sure what it looks like now, but I pray God will reveal his plan for how he wants to use me and that I will be receptive to his calling.

One of the biggest takeaways from the book for me was that when you surrender your life and your plans to God he will turn your dreams, passions, and desires into something better than anything you could imagine.

The Mercy House is doing amazing things in Kenya, getting girls off the streets and helping them raise their children in a safe environment. Kristen gives all the glory to God, admitting over and over again that there is nothing special about her. She has kids who whine, a house that’s messy, and fears just like all the rest of us. BUT, she has trusted God, time and again, and he is doing great things through her and her husband.

Has anyone else read this book? If not, Get your copy here. Or have any other book recommendations about dreaming big and following God’s plan for your life? I’d love to hear about them!

**I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book from the Tyndale Blogger Program in exchange for my honest review.
