Delayed Gratification

I’m not a patient person, so the idea of planting something in the fall and not seeing any results for 6 months is hard! But spring flowers like daffodils and tulips and crocuses are some of my favorites! And the only way to enjoy these spring blooms is to plan ahead.

So in September Adam and I planted 50 tulips bulbs around the oak tree in our front yard and waited. Six months later I was antsy to see if they survived.

I did a little happy dance when I discovered 50 little plants poking up through the dirt (yes, I counted them!). If the weather stays as nice as it’s been they should be blooming in another week or two! One of the houses on our street already has daffodils blooming!

When they bloom, they should be a mix of yellow, pink, red, and orange. You know I’ll be posting more pictures!

The best part? They’ll keep blooming year after year! I’m already dreaming up what bulbs we should plant this fall. Somethings are worth the wait!

As much as I complain about Iowa winters, I do love the changing seasons. I always wonder if I would appreciate spring as much if it didn’t come after the winter. Obviously God has a perfect plan for these things! I just hope the weather stays like this all spring. I’ll take 70 degrees and sunny any time!

  1. I’m ecstatic that we planted our’s deep enough this fall! Hyacinths, crocus and daffodils are popping up everywhere! :)

  2. Congratulations on your gardening success! The weather was so weird this winter that I planted our tulips on the first day of winter. There was no rhyme or reason to how deep I made the holes (I was actually using a pry bar to make the hole!) but something seems to be poking up in the front garden so maybe I had some success, too! As long as the squirrels stay away from them we should be good!

  3. Yay! I can’t wait to see them in full bloom! I also can’t wait to be able to plant some in my own yard, someday.

  4. Can you believe how early things are blooming this year! Love it! Flowers just make me smile- thanks for sharing!
