Friday Top 5: In the Garden

by Andrea Cooley

I think I’ve said it before, but this is my favorite time of year! Everything’s blooming and my garden’s planted.  1. Peonies
I loved my tulips, but peonies may be my all-time favorite! We missed them blooming last year, so this year I’m making sure to enjoy them double! I’ve been cutting them to bring inside and every time we walk by them I stop to smell them.

2. Baskets
We have this hanging basket out front and I also planted our window boxes. They need a little time to fill out, but I promise to take pictures when they do!

3. Tomatoes
These are cherry tomatoes, but I have 8 other tomato plants in the garden. My goal is to have more tomatoes than I know what to do with! I can’t wait for BLTs, salads, salsas, and pastas.

4. Basil
We’ve already been enjoying fresh basil on our pasta. I think I need to put it in a bigger pot though!

5. Veggies
Last summer Adam cut down the big evergreen that took up half the garden, so this year I have twice the square footage to work with! It doesn’t look like much yet, but give it a couple months and we’ll be enjoying fresh peppers, corn, tomatoes, squash, and beans! Right now I feel like there are more weeds than plants, but things are already starting to sprout.

What’s in your garden?
