This weekend Adam and I are going to the wedding of some good friends. We can’t wait to celebrate their love and commitment to one another and of course cut loose on the dance floor! As we were talking about what we were going to give them for a wedding gift, I started thinking about other wedding gifts we’ve given and those we received. Getting something from the registry is always a safe bet, but sometimes it’s fun to do something different. I mean how many towels and wine glasses do two people need, right?
I’m sure the bride and groom won’t be reading this the day before their wedding, but I won’t tell you which one of these gifts they’re getting just in case! Here are some of my favorites:
1. Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.
I think this is my favorite idea. It takes a little time and planning to get four different gifts, but it’s a lot of fun! Once when we did this the lucky couple ended up with hula hoops we found at a garage sale (something old), a crazy sex book someone gave us for our wedding (something borrowed), a pretty blue bowl (something blue), and something from their registry (something new).
2. Date night
You can go all out and give them a can full of date night ideas, like the picture above, or go with gift cards for dinner and a movie.
3. Tickets to see a show or go on a double date
I personally love this idea, but wonder if it’s selfish or thoughtful, since it means you get to partake in the gift too?
4. Honeymoon gifts
Find out where they’re going on their honeymoon and call the hotel and have a gift certificate for a massage or excursion waiting for them.
If you know the couple loves to cook or wants to learn to dance, get them lessons. Adam and I have talked about doing cooking classes or dance lessons for a long time, but haven’t gotten around to it.
What’s the most memorable wedding gift you’ve given or received?
