It’s Fun To Be One!

First Birthday www.everafterblueprint.comWe had a full house this weekend to celebrate Emerson's birthday. I think all in all there were 32 people here! A handful of them were under 2 years old, but still, that's a lot of people!

Birthday boy www.everafterblueprint.comWe LOVED having so many people celebrate with us. Yes, it was a little stressful the night before when I was baking 3 dozen cupcakes and making lists of things to do in the morning, but Adam was a huge help and Emerson took a 2 hour nap before everyone came! I also kept repeating to myself that "it doesn't have to be perfect". I knew I would never have everything clean or arranged exactly how I wanted it, but that didn't matter. What mattered was sharing the celebration with our family and friends. And I'm sure they weren't looking to see if everything was dusted or noticing if the floors weren't spotless.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. We love having people in our house. If Adam, Emerson, and I were the only people who were ever here, we wouldn't need nearly as much space. Our house isn't huge by any means, but I love that there is enough room for 30 people to come over!

birthday decorations www.everafterblueprint.comI wanted to keep the decorations pretty simple. I didn't let myself spend too much time on Pinterest looking for ideas. I knew I didn't have time to go all out, and honestly, the decorations, as cute as they might be weren't the point of the party! I made a Happy Birthday banner and a striped banner for the table. I think I got everything from Hobby Lobby. I had intentions of decorating the cardboard "1" but that didn't happen, and honestly, I kind of like it plain. I through a burlap runner over a cheap plastic table cloth and called it good. This was the treats table and we had boxes of pizza and drinks in the kitchen. Like I said, we kept it simple! I love the little chalkboard and can't wait to use it for more parties!

Birthday info graphic www.everafterblueprint.comI probably spent the most time creating this "By The Numbers" graphic. About a week before Emerson's birthday Adam and I started talking about all the milestones of the first year and figuring out things like how many diapers we'd changed, naps we'd taken, and ounces of breast milk Emerson had drank (I'm most proud of that statistic!). Hopefully we can use the same template for all our kids!

birthday buddies! www.everafterblueprint.comHow cute are kids in party hats? Seriously, these two have so much fun together!

To make Saturday morning a little crazier, we had a couch and 2 chairs (for Adam's office) delivered. We had moved the living room couch to the back room about a month ago (eventually I'll share pics I promise!) and had been without a couch in the living room. The couch was a special order (from Rowe Furniture, again, more to come on how we chose it!) and I didn't think it was going to be here in time for the party. We had chairs in the living room and the couch in the back. It would be great if the new couch was here, but I wasn't counting on it.

Birthday party www.everafterblueprint.comI think it's safe to say we now have more toys than we know what to do with, but there are worse problems to have! (I especially love that it's the dad's playing with the kids in this picture) We've already entered the stage where Adam likes to play with some of the toys as much (or more) than Emerson! We have lots of dump trucks and cars!

  1. Making it through a year of breastfeeding was something that I'm proud of too!
