Random thoughts for a cold day

by Andrea Cooley

frosty window panesIt's cold in Iowa.

Like really cold.

The temperature didn't get above zero until this afternoon, then only for a few hours.

This is my least favorite time of year. I'm trying really hard not to let myself wallow in the winter blues, but it's definitely a choice I have to make every day!

The other night I was driving to Bible study and it was cold out and snowing. I wanted to complain and stay in my warm and cozy home, but I knew I needed the time of fellowship and encouragement with other women. So, instead of focusing on how bitterly cold it was, I paused for a moment to appreciate how pretty the fluffy white flakes were as they dusted the driveway and then I cranked up my heated seats!

Enough about cold weather. Here are some things I'm loving this week!

I made these super delicious, super easy 3-ingredient s'mores from Brown Sugar Toast for date night this week. I highly recommend them!

I also made crockpot sweet potato chili. I try to have one meatless meal a week. Inevitable Adam says whatever it is would taste better with chicken, but he's a good sport about it!

Who else is excited for Sean and Catherine's wedding this weekend? I wrote about some fun ideas for hosting a viewing party over at Nellie Magazine. And yes, I will be hosting a party on Sunday night and there will be roses :)

If you need a pick-me-up, take 4 minutes and watch this amazing video of two brothers singing a worship song. It's amazing!

I finished reading Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. It came highly recommended from several people and it lived up to the hype! Seriously, if you're looking for a quick, entertaining read, pick it up! It's a crazy story about a bookstore, a secret society, Google, and cracking an ancient code. It sounds random, but it's highly entertaining! Now I get to pick what I read next. So many books to choose from!

Whether you're braving freezing winter temps or basking in the sunlight somewhere, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I'm SO glad you loved the s'mores! They are dangerously easy – I think I might need to stop buying marshmallows so I won't make/eat them so frequently! 😛

  2. OMG! I'm so excited that you are hosting a party to celebrate Sean and Catherine's wedding! I'm super excited about it (even forgoing watching Downton Abbey so I can watch the wedding) even though my husband just makes fun of me for watching and enjoying "trash like the Bachelor."  He just doesn't know quality entertainment even when it hits him in the face!

And because I feel like we have similiar book tastes – I'm adding it to my read list. I've currently working on Orphan Train. Nothing like a book about orphans to cheer you up :)
