Real Life: Bedroom

by Andrea Cooley

6 days out of 7, this is what our bedroom looks like when you walk up the stairs. Bed unmade, books on the floor, dust bunnies under the bed. The unmade bed doesn’t really bother me, that’s one of the benefits of having a bedroom in the attic, right? No one sees it. The dust bunnies under the bed drive me crazy though.

My great plan was to get a bed skirt. It would hide the dust (and the random things that are stashed under the bed). So I got a skirt at Target and had Adam lift the mattress off, only to discover that to get it to hang down below the pretty wood frame we would have to unscrew the entire frame. Adam quickly let me know that wasn’t going to happen. So now I have a wrinkled bed skirt and can still see the dust bunnies.

Any ideas? I really don’t want to cover up the frame. I wonder if I could somehow stick the bed skirt to the underside of the bed…or maybe I’ll just have to vacuum more regularly.

  1. I think this can happen! Velcro! or hooks! could hold up the bed skirt within the frame. If it drags, maybe you would just have to hem it. Having a bed skirt is one of those things that helped make my house my home.
