Shopping For: Garden Containers

by Andrea Cooley

Has anyone else noticed how many gorgeous garden containers are out there these days? Honestly, we don’t need anymore, but that doesn’t stop me from window shopping and finding great ideas for you!

Mother’s Day is when my mom says it’s safe to start gardening outside in Iowa. Every year it seems like it takes forever to get here. Usually I start to get the urge to start digging and gardening in April. Some years it’s safe to start then, but Iowa weather is nothing if not unpredictable, and it’s usually not worth risking a late frost.

I’ve been patient this year (and out of town the last 3 weekends) so this weekend I’ll be filling our window boxes and containers, planting seeds, and hopefully adding some perennials to our garden beds. I can’t wait!

Here are the containers I’m drooling over these days:

The bodhi planters from CB2 are for Laura. Seriously, how much fun are they? They’re bigger than they look, at 20-inches wide and also come in gold.

Macrame is making a come back and these fuchsia plant hangers from Home Depot make my heart pitter patter!  Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 1.01.55 PMI said I didn’t need anymore containers, but this big metal GRÄSET pot from IKEA came home with me the other weekend (Laura picked one up too). I’m going to fill it with lettuce! I’m hoping that will keep the bunnies away and let us enjoy fresh salads all summer!

Is anyone else gardening this weekend? Do you have lots of containers or do you put everything in the ground?
