Spring Mantel

by Andrea Cooley

Changing up our mantel decor is one of my favorite ways to show the changing seasons. I’ve been wanting to make a book page wreath for a long time and love the texture of it over the mantel. I loved the shim wreath I made for the holidays, but it was time for a change. There are lots of tutorials around for book page wreaths, but I’ll show you how I made mine later this week.

Usually I prefer real flowers to faux flowers, but these little boxwood topiaries and forsythia branches are definitely exceptions. You have to have blooms for spring, right? I had a 20 percent off coupon for Michael’s and couldn’t resist adding a little greenery. The branches are leftover from last year. I figure in moderation, they’re a good investment! And you can’t go wrong with pretty books. I also brought in a jade plant from the office. We’ll see if it gets more sun in the living room. I love the green pot though!

I don’t know if I’m just getting more confident in my decorating or learning what my style is, but every time I’m in the living room it makes me smile. I feel like it’s “me.” Does that make sense?

In other news, the tulips are blooming! I can’t wait to share pictures of the lovely ladies. Spring is here to stay!
