As much as I complain about our long, cold winters in Iowa, I do appreciate the changing seasons. It’s been great to be able to get outside with Emerson and go to parks and take lots of walks. I hope we’re still able to get out when baby boy gets here!
Here’s what we’re loving so far this summer!
Fresh fruit. I don’t want to take it for granted that it’s not uncommon to have 5 different kinds of delicious fruit in the house this time of year. From watermelon and cantelope to strawberries, blueberries, and peaches it’s easy to fill up on the sweet, juicy goodness. And just wait ’til the tomatoes and squash are ripe in the garden!
Water table. I found ours at Aldi of all places, but you can find them anywhere. I was telling Laura I like it more than a wading pool because I don’t have to put Emerson in his swimsuit to play in it (though he does soak himself sometimes) and
Sunscreen. I try to use non-toxic sunscreen for Emerson and really like this SPF 30 mineral sunscreen from The Honest Company. Has anyone else tried it? It’s unscented and water resistant. No pressure, but if you’re interested in getting Honest cleaning supplies, diapers, or health and wellness products, here’s my referral link. They even offer a free trial! I was able to adjust the shipping to be every other month and it’s great to get high-quality, non-toxic products sent right to the door! And I just found out, Target carries Honest Company products now.
Reusable swim diapers. I got an I Play reusable swim diaper for $10 at Target and it’s great. Honestly, we don’t use it all that often, but it’s nice to not have to buy a whole pack of special swim diapers. Full confession: Sometimes I just put Emerson in a cloth diaper without the liner, because really swim diapers don’t absorb urine, they just hold in poo.Popsicles! Has anyone else tried these Zipcicles from World Market? They are essentially reusable ice pop pouches.
Peonies! These might be my favorite flowers. Until zinnias start blooming, but for now they are at the top of the list. They don’t last long, but when they’re in bloom I can’t help but stop and smell every single one.
Last but not least, I’m probably way behind the times, but I recently discovered Parent mode for your iPhone. Seriously? This is genius! I try to limit the amount of time I let Emerson play on my phone, we don’t have any games for him yet, but he does love watching videos of himself and sometimes it’s the perfect 45-second distraction. But he hasn’t figured out that when he touches the screen the video stops, so now I can start a video and he can’t start or stop it.
It’s your turn! What are your favorite things about summer?
