Thankful in January

by Andrea Cooley

hot cocoaJanuary and February are long cold months. I have a hard time not wishing them away. Wishing for warmer days, more sunshine, and no snow. I'll be honest, I kind of had a hard time coming up with 31 things I was thankful for this month, but as always, it's a good exercise!

1. Soon Adam will be traveling less! He starts a new job in February and will be busy traveling for training, but soon he will be home much more!

2. Blue skies and sunshine even when it's freezing outside.

3. Waterbabies class at the Y

4. Being able to breathe out of my nose! I had a terrible cold the beginning of the month.

5. Space heaters. When it's this cold they are the only way the house stays warm!

6. The return of Downton Abbey and Sherlock. I love having a good show to watch on Sunday nights!

7. I am thankful beyond words that we are able to have someone come hang out with Emerson 10-15 hours/week so I can get out of the house, work on freelance projects, and have a little me time! Seriously, I don't think I could be a stay at home mom without this time!

7. Melting snow and stroller walks through puddles

8. Saturday morning breakfast date with a friend at La Mie

9. Emerson finally starting to walk more

10. Having girlfriends over to watch The Bachelor wedding!

11. Good Earth Sweet & Spicy tea

12. What an amazing dad Adam is to Emerson

13. Free Wi-Fi at coffe shops

14. Christmas money so we could go to a movie in the theater! We saw Saving Mr. Banks and loved it.

15. Leftovers so I don't have to cook dinner every night

16. Having my first post published on Nellie Mag

17. Friends with kids Emerson can play with

18. The hope of spring and longer, warmer days!

19. Emerson is starting to sit still long enough for us to read books together

20. Morning naps (for Emerson and me!)

21. Hot cocoa on a cold night

22. Red roses (leftover from my Bachelor wedding viewing party)

23. For Kendi, the little girl we sponsor in Kenya through Compassion International. This week some of my favorite bloggers (Emily and Myquillyn) have been visiting Compassion kids in Uganda. I absolutely love reading their stories and seeing through their eyes what an amazing program Compassion is. Do you sponsor a child? It's only $38 a month and so worth it!

24. Clearance racks at Target. I try to avoid "retail therapy" but sometimes a $3 shirt or $1 tea towel is just what I need to brighten my day!

25. Sweet smelling candles

26. Adam making dinner

27. Connecting with a fellow blogger

28. Praise Baby DVD. We just started letting Emerson watch 20 minutes of TV during the day (sometimes mama needs a break!) and he absolutely LOVES this DVD we got for Christmas. I love it because I can't help humming the songs during the day! Does anyone else have something they like to watch with their toddlers?

29. Avocados that are less than $1. Emerson (and I) LOVE avocados, but they have been so expensive. I think they're finally in season, because I've been finding them for $1 or less. Bring on the guacamole!

30. Getting books to download for on my Kindle from the library. Gotta love free!

31. Treating myself to a pedicure. Seriously, the best $25 I've spent in awhile. Sure it's the middle of winter, but sometimes a girl needs 30 minutes of pampering and pretty toes!

What are you thankful for this month?

  1. Thankful for connecting with you too! I bought a really nice black blazer on Target clearance. I have been wanting the cream w/ polka dots but I just don't see it being an "ageless" item, but more of a fad. I'm trying to do a better job of creating more of a staple wardrobe.
