These Days: February Edition

by Andrea Cooley

Things have been quiet on the blog this week for a couple reasons. We were visiting friends in Dallas for a long weekend and getting baby boy back on schedule takes awhile! I'm also still adjusting to being home with a baby and realizing daily that I need to lower my expectations and shorten my to-do list! I have countless posts that are half-written in my head, but finding time to sit down and write them (let alone take pictures or finish a project) is hard! So I am continually giving myself permission to slow down, enjoy these days with the baby, and not obsess over what I don't finish (or even start), but instead savor this new pace.

I always like reading monthly roundups on other blogs (like Eat, Live, Run and Jones Design Company) so I thought I'd start a monthly series called "These Days" and share what life looks like in the Cooley house.

These days, I'm dreaming of spring! As I type, snow is falling and the wind is howling. We're supposed to get 8-10 inches overnight and it's threatening to interfere with our weekend plans! It's one thing to get snow in December and even January, but it's almost March! I know, I know. I live in Iowa, what do I expect, right? I especially hate it when the weather dictates what I do. Hmmph! Aren't these blooms to die for? I can almost smell their sweet scent.

These days, I'm loving crock pot meals. Let's be honest, when do I not love crock pot meals! Lately we've been eating chicken tortilla soup, baked potato soup, and pulled pork. So good! And plenty of leftovers!

These days, I'm watching The West Wing. Adam and I missed this show when it was originally on and have been binging on it now that it's on Netflix "watch instant". I love anything written by Aaron Sorkin and this is no exception! Good thing there are 7 seasons–we're set for the next couple months. And Elizabeth Moss (Peggy from Mad Men) is the president's daughter.

These days, I'm studying James Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore. I've read one other book by Beth Moore, but it didn't have a study workbook. I'm going through this with a friend and so far it's great! This week I'm convicted by James 1:19 to be "quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger." I try to go through it during baby boy's morning nap.

These days, I'm planning to redecorate the guest room/office. Who knows when this will actually happen, but a girl can dream, right? I'm thinking of using this fabric for curtains and then painting the walls a light turquoise. What do you think?

These days, I'm reading Insurgent by Veronica Roth on the Kindle app for iPhone. I held out using an e-reader for as long as I could, but after having a baby and realizing it's much easier to hold a phone and read than a big book, I broke down and bought my first Kindle book, Divergent. I think it's the next Hunger Games trilogy. I finished Divergent after Christmas and just started Insurgent. Anyone else reading this series? I think there will be 4 books in it.

What are you up to these days?
