Weekend Visitors

by laura.johnson

We are overjoyed to have Cody’s parents visiting us this weekend. It gives us good occasion to explore parts of Michigan that can otherwise fall to the back burner in the midst of day-to-day life. Art and Ginger are loving, wonderful people, who are a complete ease to be around, which is no surprise when you consider their son.

Like most, I find myself in a flurry around the house getting ready for a weekend of fun and company. Being a project-minded gal, I feel like my to-do list looks a little different than your average list.

Sensible List Example:

  • Dust
  • Mop floors
  • Laundry
  • Grocery shop

Here is my ‘Laura should set better limits’ To-Do List:

  • Re-arrange our bedroom
  • Clean out  under our bed, which I still claim is the apartment version of attic storage.
  • Organize our closets
  • De-clutter our bookshelves
  • Move around furniture
  • Hang pictures
  • Replant my dying basil (the result of too many busy weekends)
  • Finish projects X,Y, & Z
  • Dust
  • Mop floors
  • Laundry
  • Grocery shop

I held myself back from putting items on the list that I knew I couldn’t accomplish like, painting the living room again, and building a desk. Yea, I know, limits. But I seriously debated the desk for at least two days.

As much as this might seem like a source of stress to some, I truly enjoy taking a special effort to get our home ready for those we love. Thank heaven it’s only a little over 500 sq feet.

Andrea shared their routine before entertaining guest, but what do you do to get ready for company?

  1. Dust, vaccum then shampoo carpet (if it needs it), de-clutter shelves/knick-knacks, file paperwork, read through magazines to toss (sorry Andrea, the mags we get aren’t worth keeping!), and landscaping/weeding as needed.
