What’s your style?

Anthropologie makes it look effortless

I have a hard time labeling my decorating “style”. Our house is fairly traditional, with warm wood floors, wood trim, and wood doors. These definitely influence my design choices. Then I worked for Country Home magazine, and while I wouldn’t call myself a country girl, I do have a soft spot for a good farmhouse table, classic white accessories, and a touch of rustic.

HomeGoods doesn’t have any stores in Iowa. So when I read about John and Sherry’s finds at the store, I can only dream of the discounts. I guess TJ Maxx is our equivalent, but the stores in Des Moines don’t seem to have quite the same selection when it comes to furnishings and accessories.

But, even if I don’t shop at Home Goods, I was still excited to take their style quiz.

It says I’m Bohemian Classic (the same as Deboarh Needleman, former editor of Domino!) That’s what I think of when I think of Anthropologie.

I think my current style leans more toward classic than bohemian, but I do love bright colors and the collected look. Now I just need to take risks to incorporate it into our house! (and convince Adam that things don’t have to match and lots of patterns are OK)

What’s your style? Regardless of what the quiz says you are!

  1. I’d say my style is streamlined but eclectic. I love to mix and match, and I’m a big proponent of the collected look as well! I think this style quiz came out pretty accurately for me = “Global Modern.” I don’t think I would have come up with that term to describe my style, but now that I think about it, it seems pretty accurate. I really identified with the description: “You keep up with culture, style, and trends but have a classical appreciation for beautiful forms, good design, and quality craftsmanship. You prefer the streamlined and a bit of breathing room to the overly embellished or cluttered. But your style is far from cold, because your aesthetic interests are wide-ranging and far-flung.You appreciate other cultures and like mixing the old or the unusual with the new and modern. Objects in your home tend to reflect your personality, your passions, your travels, and your eclectic interests–uniting to form a well-edited collection. You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. Your home can be happy and lively and the place all of your friends want to be.” Fun quiz! Thanks for sharing it!
